{Print Awards - Interview with Ian Smith from Advance Print}

How long have you been working in partnership with The Hub?

I’ve been working with the Hub since it was founded 11 years ago, but I’ve known Nic for 16 years, which I probably shouldn’t say because it might make us sound old!

What is this award about and why did you choose this project of The Hub’s to enter into the award?

Every year I gather samples of projects that we’ve printed for our clients and then when the awards come around in August, I sit down and go through everything. I pull out and select items that have been well printed and but that also have a nice designed feel. This piece was a ‘Finding my Place’ booklet that the Hub designed for Rural Health West and it had beautiful design that translated really well into print.

I entered it into The West Australian Printing Industry Craftsmanship Awards in the booklets, catalogues and magazines with 64 plus pages category.  That category is one of the most hotly contested ones and this booklet won gold which was incredible. There was only two gold level awards given and Advance Printing won them both!

How would you describe your relationship with The Hub?

We’ve had a relationship for 16 years and, just like any good relationship, that’s been built around honesty and integrity and doing a consistently good job. What we do is important for The Hub and their clients. As a supplier it’s paramount that the quality of the print is right and that we deliver on time with no mistakes, because that adds to the client experience. I think we work well together and I invest my time and energy to make sure that continues to be the case.

What do you foresee making waves in 2016?

We’re starting to see a return to print in marketing. It’s clear that there is value in beautifully printed, well designed materials and that they still have a place in communicating with people about your brand. These materials add to customer experience, which as we move towards everything digital, is becoming increasingly important.
